In this episode, Toria talks about the importance of emotional intelligence in education with Niomi Clyde Roberts, who has recently published a book on the subject.  They discuss  some of the scientific research and real-life examples that Niomi uses in her book to demonstrate how empathy and clear communication can make every teacher and leader feel motivated, fulfilled and respected. From knowing when to say no and responding to negativity, to working effectively as a team and letting every member know they're valued, Niomi believes emotional intelligence in education is the key to enhanced productivity and superb teaching, benefiting both staff and students.

Niomi is an assistant headteacher with a passion for effective pedagogy. She carries out science workshops for early career teachers and has been awarded the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM). Niomi has completed her NPQSL and writes for blogs and education platforms including Nexus Education and HWRK magazine, and has led workshops at events such as PrimaryRocks and Practical Pedagogies in Toulouse.
